Harry Styles says his upcoming album is “my favorite album to listen to”

ABC/Phil McCartenHarry Styles‘ forthcoming solo debut album has at least one fan already — Harry Styles.

“In the least weird way possible, it’s my favorite album to listen to at the moment,” Harry told the BBC’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show of the forthcoming record, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

“I was with the guys who I was writing it with and we just wanted to make what we wanted to listen to,” he said, “and that has been the most fun part for me about making the whole album.”

Harry said many of the album’s songs were written in Jamaica after his work on the forthcoming WWII film Dunkirk ended.  He said working on the movie with famed director Christopher Nolan was good for his music, but not in the way you might expect, admitting that he was very stressed out about making a solo record, but doing the movie “gave me a chance to completely step away from it for a bit and have a real break.”

The final track list was whittled down from around 70 songs or ideas for songs, he adds. So did he have some help making the cuts?  Sort of.  Harry admits he asked Ed Sheeran for his thoughts on the album, but didn’t exactly listen to Ed’s advice.

“I played him a few songs after the album was finished. He didn’t say that he didn’t like any, but he did like one song that isn’t on the album,” Harry said.

“Sign of the Times,” the album’s lead single, premieres on Friday.
