Judge denies Britney Spears’ request to remove father as co-conservator

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has denied Britney Spears‘ request to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from her longstanding conservatorship.  The decision comes a week after the “Toxic” singer made an impassioned plea to end her 13-year conservatorship.

Judge Brenda Penny, who was present during Spears’ bombshell testimony last week, dismissed the request filed by Spears’ attorney Samuel Ingham III to have her father replaced by Bessemer Trust as sole conservator.

According to the court documents obtained by ABC Audio, the judge ruled, “The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice.”

The judge also noted Spears is “substantially unable to manage his or her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence.”

Wednesday’s ruling was only to approve Bessemer Trust as co-conservator.

The request to terminate Jamie Spears’ involvement in the conservatorship was initially filed in November 2020, with Attorney Ingham stating Britney was “afraid of her father” and would no longer perform as long as he had control over her estate.

Judge Penny’s ruling is significant, as she was the judge who presided over last week’s hearing where the Grammy winner leveled damning accusations against her family and conservators in a 24-minute testimony.

Spears’ pleaded, “I just want my life back. And it’s been 13 years. And it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money. And it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end without being tested.”

The Grammy winner also expressed she wants to terminate her 13-year conservatorship.

Spears’ next hearing is scheduled for July 14, where it is possible she will formally submit a petition to be released from her conservatorship.
