MAX says “Love Me Less” collab with Quinn XCII was an “organic, beautiful hot mess”

After scoring a hit with the deeply personal “Lights Down Low,” featuring gnash, MAX is now enjoying another hit with another deeply personal song featuring another male artist: “Love Me Less,” featuring Quinn XCII, aka Quinn 92.  MAX says that he thinks it’s unique to have another guy featured on the track, given what the song is about.

“Love Me Less” is about worrying that your partner might stop loving you if they found out about all the bad stuff in your past. Quinn and MAX work with the same producers, and when Quinn heard the song, he immediately wanted to be a part of it.

“I think when we were writing the song, we thought, ‘Oh, a female voice would be awesome,'” MAX tells ABC Radio. “But the second I heard that verse he wrote, I was like, ‘I love the different perspective from another male on this thing.'” Because I think a lot of times men — especially straight men — are maybe not as open about their feelings or their insecurities.”

It is interesting to have two straight men singing about their insecurities with the people that they love,” MAX adds. “I love [Quinn’s] stuff anyway, so it just worked out. It was an organic, beautiful, hot mess that worked out really well!”

The only problem is that, just like with “Lights Down Low,” Quinn can’t be with MAX every time he sings the song live.

“I try to sing his verse and he sings so differently than I do. So it’s something I’m continuing to figure out,” MAX says.

MAX’s Intimate AF tour resumes August 4 in Chicago, end at the end of that month, starts back up October 3 and wraps in mid-November.
