30 for 30: Taylor Swift tells all as she shares “lessons” ahead of milestone birthday

Ben HassettOn December 13, Taylor Swift will hit the big 3-0, but in advance of the milestone, she’s teamed with ELLE to share 30 “lessons” she’s learned in the past 29 years, and in the process, discusses pretty much everything that’s happened to her in the past few years — including the Kim Kardashian feud, her squad, her relationships and her biggest fear.

Regarding that last one, she admits, “After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was completely terrified to go on tour — I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe.”  She also reveals she carries around special bandages designed for “gunshot or stab wounds.”

The feud? She writes that after “someone” called her a snake, it “led me to feeling lower than I’ve ever felt in my life.”  But she says she survived it by having a “63-foot inflatable cobra” onstage every night during her tour.

Her squad?  She admits it was insensitive for her to “post pictures, and celebrate” her “acceptance into a sisterhood” when others “felt so alone.”  She adds, “It’s sad but sometimes when you grow, you outgrow relationships.”

A few more choice quotes:

“I learned to stop hating every ounce of fat on my body.”

“Only as someone approaching 30 did I feel informed enough to speak about [politics] to my 114 million followers…Invoking racism and provoking fear through thinly veiled messaging is not what I want from our leaders…it actually is my responsibility to use my influence against that disgusting rhetoric.”

“In cases of sexual assault, I believe the victim.”

“…First impressions actually aren’t everything…Do they still love you after they’ve seen you broken? Or after they’ve walked in on you having a full conversation with your cats as if they’re people?”
