At first, Ariana Grande thought her history-making chart feat was a joke

Republic RecordsAriana Grande made Billboard chart history earlier today, but at first, she thought it was a joke.

On Instagram, the singer shared her reaction to the news that she’d become the first artist to be #1, #2 and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously since The Beatles did it in 1964.

“i laughed when i saw this bc i thought y’all edited it,” she wrote, captioning a screenshot of the Billboard chart. “…i thought this was a joke when i saw it i’m not kidding.”

“thank u from the bottom of my heart. for so many reasons,” she continued. “first time since the beatles huh (and first time for a solo artist?). that’s wild.”

Ariana concluded, “i cant believe this is real. thanks for making history w ya girl today. and for making me feel loved. bye crying.”

In another post, she included her grandmother’s hilarious reaction: “Nonna just facetimed me and screamed ‘ANYTHING ELSE U WANNA DO?’”

Ari’s “7 Rings” is #1 for a fourth week, followed by “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored,” at #2 and “thank u, next” at #3, up from #7.  All three songs are from Ari’s new album Thank U, Next, which also debuted at #1 this week.
