Maroon 5 won't participate in traditional pre-Super Bowl press conferenc

Every year ahead of the Super Bowl, the artist performing during halftime takes part in a press conference, where they take lots of photos and answer softball questions from reporters.  But this year, that’s not going to happen.

ABC-TV Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV tweeted a statement from the NFL stating that Maroon 5 will not be participating in the traditional press conference, where the group’s members no doubt would have faced questions regarding their controversial participation in the event.

“Maroon 5 has been working hard on a Pepsi Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show that will meet and exceed the standards of this event,” reads the statement. “As it is about music, the artists will let their show do the talking as they prepare to take the stage this Sunday.”

The statement goes on to say that “instead of hosting a press conference,” the NFL plans to continue a “social and digital medial rollout” of behind-the-scenes footage and content from all of the halftime performers, who also include rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi.

As previously reported, Maroon 5 — along with the NFL and the band’s label, Interscope Records — will make a $500,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sister of America ahead of the game.
