Taylor Swift's Reputation tour sets record for highest-grossing U.S. tour

TAS Rights ManagementBig reputation, really big Reputation tour.

Taylor Swift‘s recently wrapped Reputation stadium tour has now broken the record for the highest-grossing U.S. tour, according to Billboard. The publication says the tour has grossed more than any other U.S. trek since it began tracking touring data in 1990.

What does that look like in numbers?  Taylor’s tour brought in just over $266 million domestically with sales of just over 2.07 million tickets.  That breaks the record set by The Rolling Stones in 2007, when they raked in $245 million from their A Bigger Bang tour.  But notably, the Stones took 70 shows to hit that dollar amount; Taylor did it in just 38.

Taylor also broke her own record for highest-grossing domestic tour by a woman: She’d previously set it in 2015 with her 1989 World Tour, which earned $181.5 million.

The most successful run of shows during the Reputation tour was the three concerts Taylor headlined at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ back in July. Those three dates alone brought in $22 million.

As Billboard notes, Taylor’s constantly escalating box-office grosses are really impressive because on each tour, she’s played fewer and fewer dates.  For example, on her 2009 tour in support of her album Fearless, she played 77 shows and grossed $54 million. These days, she’s able to play fewer dates and earn more because she’s headlining stadiums, bringing in an average of $7 million per show.
