Jesse McCartney kicks off headlining tour tonight, but is “Beautiful Soul” on the set list?

Grant SpanierFollowing the release earlier this year of “Better With You” — his first new music in four years —  Jesse McCartney kicks off a major headlining tour tonight in Atlanta, GA.  He tells ABC Radio what fans can expect from the trek.

“We’re gonna do, production-wise, a cool lighting show,” he says, promising a “fun live performance with the oldies and the goodies, and some of the new stuff.”

One of those “oldies” is Jessie’s signature song “Beautiful Soul.”  Does he plan to change it up a bit, since by now, he’s played it a zillion times?

“I don’t know, I think people like that song the way it is,” he tells ABC Radio. “I think when you…change the arrangement of the song, people get a little bummed out, actually. So I think I’ll keep that one as is, but I am gonna do a little bit of a mash-up and medleys throughout the set.”

“I’m gonna try to do as many songs as I can, but, like, maybe a verse and a chorus of that song, or just even a few lines,” he adds.

Touring with new music after years away from the spotlight is sometimes a daunting experience, but Jesse says he’s been surprised to find that his fans were eager to welcome him back.

“I didn’t really know what to expect…after taking such a long period of time off….and they’ve showed up in huge numbers, and have shown me that they want even more music,” he explains. “So I’m, like, struggling to keep up with them at this point, but it just feels nice, y’know?”

“I love what I do,” he adds. “I’m gonna release as many songs as I can this year, and also next year.”

The tour wraps up July 25 in L.A.
