Christina Aguilera and Jimmy Fallon busk in a New York subway station on “The Tonight Show”

Andrew Lipovsky/NBCChristina Aguilera was one of Jimmy Fallon‘s guests on Thursday’s Tonight Show to promote her first album in six years, Liberation. The appearance included the two busking in a New York City subway station.

Aguilera and Fallon taped the segment the night before, with she and Jimmy donning disguises as they busked in the subway station below NYC’s 30 Rock, where the show is taped.

Christina, in a floppy hat and sunglasses, and Fallon, playing a banjo and wearing a fake mustache, kicked off the performance with a cover of Aretha Franklin‘s 1960s hit “Think.” After revealing their identities, Aguilera and Fallon led the crowd of onlookers in a rendition of Christina’s own 2002 hit “Stronger.”

Previous busking segments have featured Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine and James Valentine, and Miley Cyrus

During her sit down with Jimmy, Aguilera discussed her family, her upcoming Liberation tour, launching September 25, and why she chose Liberation as the title of her new album.

“I just felt it was time for myself to be liberated, to inspire others to have their own voice, to feel empowered and hopefully inspire…take the duct tape off, feel themselves [and] feel secure in their own voice [and]…their bodies, she explained. It’s just that time. Peel off their masks and you know, shed the skin and be themselves.”

Christina also revealed that her three-year-old daughter, Summer Rain, insists on hearing her sing the theme song from the animated children’s TV series PJ Masks before bed every night. Christina told Fallon that she indulges her daughter, but she sings it as a lullaby to help Summer fall asleep. She even gave Jimmy a little sample.

Aguilera closed out the show with a performance of “Fall in Line” off Liberation.
