Adele's still the UK's richest young musician, but Ed Sheeran's coming on strong

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagicEd Sheeran‘s made a mint in the past year but when it comes to rolling in the dough, he still can’t beat Adele.

On the new Sunday Times’ Rich List, published annually in the U.K., Adele is the country’s richest young musician for the second year running, with an estimated wealth of nearly $189 million.  Ed comes in at #2, with a fortune of just under $108 million.  However, in the past year, he’s increased his wealth by the highest margin, a whopping $38 million.

According to the BBC, numbers three, four and five on the list of the richest young musicians are the individual members of One Direction, respectively: Harry Styles is #3, Niall Horan is #4 and Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are tied for fifth.  Their former bandmate Zayn Malik is #8, while Sam Smith is #9, with a fortune of $32 million.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney is the richest musician overall in the U.K., with an estimated worth of $1.1 billion.  That, however, includes the assets of his wife, Nancy Shevell, who is the heiress to a huge trucking business.

Theater legend Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is #2 on the list, followed by U2, who have a collective worth of about $720 million. Elton John is fourth on the list — he’s worth $405 million.

According to the BBC, the rest of the list includes Rolling Stones singer and guitarist Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the heirs of late Beatle George Harrison, former Beatle Ringo Starr, and Sting.
