Grammy winners and performers see overnight sales bump

The Recording AcademyIt’ll take a while to see just how big a sales bump the Grammy winners, nominees and performers get from Sunday night’s ceremony, but early indications are that Sunday was a good night for Bruno Mars in more ways than one.

Bruno won all six categories in which he was nominated, sweeping the night’s big prizes — Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.  He also performed his “Finesse” duet with Cardi B.   According to Nielsen Music, that’s already paying dividends.

Compared to sales on Saturday, sales of Bruno’s winning album, 24K Magic, rose 157 percent on Sunday, sales of Bruno’s winning single, “That’s What I Like,” rose 186 percent, and sales of his “Finesse” remix rose 53 percent.

Performers who didn’t win also saw big increases.

Kesha, who performed “Praying,” with an all-star support cast, saw sales of the single jump by 720 percent — an increase of 8,000 downloads, the biggest unit increase of the night –and sales of her album, Rainbow, increase by 289 percent.

Sales of “Despacito,” which was shut out of its three nominations, were up 263 percent after a performance by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

Lady Gaga, who delivered a medley of “Joanne” and “Million Reasons,” saw sales of those songs increase by 41 percent and 662 percent respectively.

Pink was the big sales winner on a percentage basis.  The singer performed “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken,” without her usual acrobatics.  Sales of the single jumped more than 20,000 percent.

We’ll see over the next few days who gets a longer term Grammy bump.
