David Livingston/Getty ImagesEver since Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber rekindled their romance, there have been countless stories about how Selena’s mom Mandy Teefey disapproves of the relationship, and how it’s driven mother and daughter apart. Well, now Teefey herself is setting the record straight about her true feelings towards Jelena.
Speaking to Gossip Cop, a website dedicated to debunking celebrity rumors, Teefey says that she and Justin Bieber haven’t spoken, or even texted “in years,” and admits that she is “not happy” about the fact that he and Selena are dating again. However, she notes, “Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy.”
“Every mother and daughter has disagreements,” Teefey adds, denying rumors that she and Selena’s relationship had been strained since she and Selena’s stepdad stopped managing Selena’s career four years ago.
“We never expected to manage her her whole life. We lost family time because the only time we saw her, we talked business,” she explains. “It was no longer fun for any of us, like it was when she was younger, and we had to be with her because she was a minor.”
When asked if Selena’s relationship could have a negative impact on the singer/actress’ health, Teefey says, “She is 25 years old and knows what is at stake with her health. I do not control her the way it has been portrayed.”
She added, “Selena is an adult and can make her own choices.”
