Demi and Miley both score top 10 album debuts

Island/Safehouse/Hollywood RecordsTwo former Disney stars-turned-pop superstars land in the top 10 of the Billboard album chart this week.

Demi Lovato‘s new album Tell Me You Love Me debuts at #3 with first-week sales of 74,000 units. This is her sixth top 10 album — all five of her previous discs reached the top 10 as well, with her 2009 album, Here We Go Again,  hit #1.  The success of the new album is being led by her hit single “Sorry Not Sorry.”

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus‘ new album Younger Now debuts at #5 with sales of 45,000 units. It’s her 11th top 10 album, counting the albums she recorded as Hannah Montana. It’s Miley’s first top 10 since her 2013 release, Bangerz.

Neither woman could overtake the one who ended up at #1: that’s Shania Twain, whose first studio album in 15 years, Now, tops the album chart. In at #2 is Tom Petty & the HeartbreakersGreatest Hits, a reflection of the fact that Petty, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, died last week of cardiac arrest at the age of 66.
