Julia Michaels lands on “People”'s Ones to Watch List for 2017

Meredith TruaxAfter penning a string of hits for artists like Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, Julia Michaels is now a star herself, thanks to her hit “Issues” and the other tracks on her debut EP, Nervous System.   The latest recognition that she’s no longer a behind-the-scenes figure? She’s just landed on People magazine’s Ones to Watch list.

Since 2012, People has put together its Ones to Watch list of promising newcomers, some of which go on to become massively famous.  Julia’s one of this year’s group — she tells the magazine, “I get to have a voice now. I’ve never felt like I had one before. It’s pretty cool.”

But when asked to name that one moment where she felt like she’d made it as a star in her own right, Julia can’t really come up with one.

“Every single day feels like an accomplishment,” she tells People. “[Being on this list] feels like an accomplishment. Putting a song of mine out for the first time — that feels like an accomplishment.  So it just depends on the day.”

Others on the list this year include Michael Jackson‘s daughter Paris Jackson, country singer Carly Pearce, Dennis Quaid‘s son, actor Jack Quaid, black-ish star Marcus Scribner, former Walking Dead star Emily Kinney, and Riverdale and Stranger Things star Shannon Purser.

As previously reported, Julia also appears on Maroon 5‘s new album, Red Pill Blues.
