Hozier says second album is “on the way”; will be “dark…but…fun”

Hozier released his breakthrough single “Take Me to Church” back in 2013 and his self-titled debut album in 2014.  Now, he says his long-awaited second album is “on the way.”

Speaking to the Irish radio station RTE2fm, Hozier revealed that he has “much of…it written and demoed and a great deal of it arranged,” but he’s still figuring which songs will make the final cut.

“I have a great deal of it done, but it’s still in progress,” he noted. “I’m looking forward to it and I’m excited about it.”

As for what his new songs are about, he explained, “It’s a mixed bag. I think it’ll be dark but it’ll have a sense of humor to it…these are dark times.  It’ll be dark in its own respects, but it’ll be a bit more fun as well.”

“I can’t really describe it because I’m trying to pare down the songs I don’t want, so it will be hard to pick what makes it in the end, but we’ll see” he added.

The singer also said he’s still not comfortable with the fame that “Take Me to Church” brought him, and the fact that he’s been linked to a variety of famous women, including Taylor Swift.

“I’m still trying to reconcile that aspect of it,” he explained. “It’s easy for me to reconcile the song and I’m thrilled that the song did what it did and reached people, but reconciling being recognized by people can be odd, and took much longer to get used to.”

“You go into something because you’ve[got] music to make and you’ve [got] songs you want to write and sing — and then there’s everything else that follows,” he said. “That is trickier.”
