Pentatonix puts melancholy spin on Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own”

Image Group LA/ABCPentatonix is putting their own spin on the 2010 Robyn track “Dancing on My Own.”

The a cappella group has released their cover of the song, as well as a video to go along with it. Instead of using only their voices, this time around they add a cello into the mix. The result is a more melancholy version of the upbeat tune.

The video features Kevin Olusola playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, while Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado trade verses and harmonize.

“We just wanted to take a minute to thank you all for your ongoing love and support,” the group writes on their YouTube page. “It means the world to all of us! ‘Dancing on My Own’ is one of our favorite songs, by Robyn who is one of our favorite artists, and we’re so very proud to share it with you.”

They add, “We hope you love it as much as we do and we’re excited to share new music — and more — with you very, very soon. We love you!”

Pentatonix kicks off their summer North American tour on August 5 at the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair.
