On Wednesday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen announced that Miley was donating a whopping $500 thousand to relief efforts. As the audience cheered and applauded, Miley broke down in tears when she spoke about the empathy she feels for the hurricane’s victims.
“I don’t know why it makes me so upset, it just makes me really upset,” she said, her voice breaking. “You know, my grandma’s sitting here and my mom’s here and I go home to my seven dogs and if I didn’t have that anymore, it’d just be really hard.”
“So I’m really happy to help anyway that I can,” Miley continued. “And I hope people understand and can put themselves in those people’s shows and just know what it feels like to have everything taken away from you.”
On top of her own donation, Miley tweeted that her charity, the Happy Hippie Foundation, will now be directing all donations to relief efforts.
