Taylor Swift officially breaks YouTube's 24-hour viewing record

Mert & MarcusOn Monday, we learned that in less than 24 hours, Taylor Swift’s new video for “Look What You Made Me Do” had already surpassed such monster hits as Adele’s “Hello” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” in one-day YouTube view totals.  Now, the clip has shattered the all-time record.

Taylor’s self-referential video drew a final tally of 43.2 million views in 24 hours, breaking the 24-hour record previously set by South Korean rapper PSY.  His video for “Gentleman” had 36 million views in its first hours.

The video racked up those views very quickly, averaging over 30,000 per minute, and three million per hour.

The provocative video shows Taylor killing off or confronting all her past personas.  At the end, several iterations of Taylor argue with one another, using language that parrots some of the criticism she’s received over the years.

“Look What You Made Me Do” is the first single from Taylor’s new album Reputation, due out November 10.
