Kesha has #1 album with “Rainbow”

Olivia BeeKesha‘s Rainbow debuts this week at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart, the magazine reports.

Rainbow hits number one with 116,000 in sales and equivalent streams, the second biggest sales and streams week for a female artist in 2017, behind Katy Perry whose Witness debuted with 180,000 in sales and equivalent streams last month.

It’s Kesha’s second chart-topping album.  Her debut, Animal, topped the Billboard 200 in 2010.

Rainbow is Kesha’s fifth album to make the Billboard 200.  Her last, Warrior, was released in 2012 and peaked at number six.

The seven years, seven months and 10 days between chart toppers for Kesha is the longest period between number ones for a female artist since 2009.  That year Barbra Streisand hit number one with Love Is the Answer, 11 years, 10 months and 18 days after her prior number one, Higher Ground, according to Billboard.
