David LaChapelle Katy Perry will be pulling double duty at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. The singer will be hosting the ceremony, as well as performing.
A promo for her hosting gig features Katy in a purple holographic space suit as she hurdles through space towards the moon. The VMA trophy is, of course, a moonman — in this case, the space suit belt reads “moonwoman.”
“I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson,” Katy says in a statement. “Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids.”
Katy’s also a multi-VMA nominee with five nods, including Best Pop, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects, for “Chained to the Rhythm.”
