Kygo invites fans to experience the backstage chaos in “Stole the Show” documentary

Johanne LovundFresh off his MTV VMA nomination for his hit “Ain’t It Me” with Selena Gomez, Kygo has released Stole the Show, a new documentary about his rise to fame.

The Norwegian DJ/producer says it was a little nerve-wracking at first to put his life on display, especially since he typically takes a more behind-the-scenes role in his music.

“I think it’s a big step for me but I’ve been taking a lot of big steps the last three years so I’m kind of used to it now,” he told ABC Radio at the Apple Music and Kygo Stole the Show Screening in NYC Tuesday night. “But I’m just very excited for people to see this documentary and see everything that’s been going on from my point of view and my team’s point of view.”

That includes a particularly chaotic moment where his climactic show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn almost didn’t happen. He says fans might be most surprised to learn that things were “a mess” in the hours right before the show.

As someone who lived these moments, the documentary serves a different purpose for Kygo.

“The last three years has been so busy so I haven’t really had time to really kinda take it all in,” he says. “But now that I watched the documentary, all the memories kinda start flowing and I’m like, ok, oh we did this, we did that. And it’s just a lot of fun for me to watch it.”

Stole the Show debuts today on Apple Music.
