Republic RecordsOne Direction may be on hiatus, but there’s no shortage of 1D members on the radio or on the charts.
As Billboard reports, Liam Payne has become the fourth current or past member of the boy band to score a U.S. top 40 hit: his single “Strip That Down” has jumped to #34. That means he, ZAYN, Niall Horan and Harry Styles have now each earned at least one solo top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Louis Tomlinson came close last year, peaking at #52 with “Just Hold On,” his collaboration with Steve Aoki.
Zayn was the first one to achieve the feat when “Pillowtalk” hit #1 in February 2016. Niall got his in October, when “This Town” hit #20. Harry’s “Sign of the Times” peaked at #4 in April.
The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and U2 have all had at least four members with individual Top 40 hits. The Eagles had five members who scored solo top 40 hits.
The group with the most members that have appeared on the Hot 100, though, is Wu-Tang Clan. Eight of the hip-hop group’s members have charted, but only three reached the top 40.
