RCA RecordsMiley Cyrus is set to perform her emotional new song, “Slide Away,” for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight.
The singer released the song on August 15, following news of her split with husband Liam Hemsworth, and the lyrics seem to reveal telling details about what went wrong in their relationship.
“Once upon a time it was made for us/Woke up one day and it turned to dust/Baby, we were found but now we’re lost/so it’s time to let it go,” she sings on the track.
She continues, “I want my house in the Hills/Don’t want the whisky and pills/I don’t give up easily/But I don’t think I’m down.”
Last week, Liam filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Miley took to Twitter to deny allegations of infidelity.
“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” she wrote.
Miley previously indicated she would not be performing at the VMAs after getting snubbed for a nomination.
As captured by Entertainment Tonight, Miley wrote in the comments section of Instagram there was “no f***in way” she’d be performing in response to a fan who posted, “Guess I’m not watching the VMAS this year. Unless Miley performs.”
The VMAs air live tonight from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
