Lady Gaga honors longtime hairstylist, says he inspired her song “Hair”

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagicThe bond between Lady Gaga and her hairstylist is strong.

The singer helped honor Frederic Aspiras with the Hair Artist of the Year Award at the Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Sunday. Variety reports that in her introduction, Gaga said Aspiras isn’t just her hairstylist of over 10 years – he’s family.

“Even saying his full name, as the rockstar he’s become, I find myself thinking, ‘No, he’s not just, in my eyes, the greatest hair artist in the world, he’s the brother I never had,’” she said.

Gaga also revealed something she said not even Aspiras knew: He was the inspiration for the song “Hair” on her 2011 album Born This Way. She said she wrote the song because “He helped inspire me to love myself, and be myself every day.”

Among the iconic Gaga hair looks Aspiras created was her bleached blonde ‘do at the Oscars this year. Gaga said they both stayed up all night coloring her hair “because we’re both going, ‘B****, we didn’t come this far to go to the Oscars with a root. We have to bleach it.’”
