Kelly Clarkson says getting her own talk show “wasn't a dream of mine”

ABC/Image Group LAIt seems like a natural fit for Kelly Clarkson to get her own talk show. But the singer tells Forbes that despite her gift of gab, hosting a show isn’t exactly a dream come true for her.

“For all my friends that have been working in the industry, it’s a big goal of theirs to have that,” Kelly says. “I don’t know, it kind of seems like…it landed in my lap and I want to obviously appreciate it and not take it for granted and try to do my best, obviously — if anything just for those people that maybe didn’t get that break that they wanted.”

But, she adds, “I’ll be honest, it wasn’t a dream of mine, I just…I do love people, so it wasn’t a far-fetched idea for me to just have a bunch of guests on my show and be talking to them.”

Kelly says The Kelly Clarkson Show will be a little bit of everything: funny skits, music and also serious topics.

Before she gets to wow her talk show audience this fall, though, she’s wowing concert audiences while on tour in support of her album Meaning of Life.  Her rendition of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born duet, “Shallow,” which she sang during her Wisconsin show on Friday, has gone viral.

She tells Forbes she wasn’t even aware the song got such a good response.

“I like covering a lot of different artists,” she says. “And honestly, for no other reason that I’m just a fan.”

Kelly hints that she’s working on a Shawn Mendes cover next. Her tour’s next stop is Detroit on Thursday, February 21.
