On “Ellen,” Kelly Clarkson chats about talk show, debuts trailer for “UglyDolls”

ABC/Image Group LAKelly Clarkson is putting her gift of gab to good use in more ways than one. Her new talk show will premiere later this year, and so will her new animated flick, UglyDolls.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday, she chatted about both projects and debuted the first trailer for UglyDolls.

“What’s funny is, my whole dream was to be in an animated film…but I did think I’d play a princess, so it’s pretty funny that mine is UglyDolls,” she tells Ellen. “Her name is Moxy and literally, I’m not acting…it’s, like, me.”

Moxy is a misfit toy who dreams of venturing out into the real world and interacting with kids, just like other toys. The trailer shows Moxy and her pals — voiced by Blake Shelton and Pitbull — on their journey to acceptance. UglyDolls, which hits theaters May 3, also features the voices of Nick Jonas, Bebe Rexha and Janelle Monae.

As for Kelly’s talk show, she tells Ellen that she has the talking part down, but still needs to learn to listen better. She also reveals that each episode will begin with her singing a cover song, much as she does on tour.

“Each show we lead with music,” she says. “…So then by the time I got down to the stage, I was, like, oddly comfortable.”

The Kelly Clarkson Show debuts on NBC this fall.
