Jeff Neira/CBSKelly Clarkson‘s won three Grammys in her career and she’s up for another one at next month’s ceremony. But if you happen to drop by her house, her trophies are nowhere to be seen…because she doesn’t want to seem like a boastful jerk.
Speaking to Billboard, Kelly explains that she keeps her Grammys “on the top floor of our house so nobody sees them, and I don’t look like a tool that’s like, ‘Hey, here are all my accolades.’”
“But I really love them, and I am very proud of them,” she explains. “And if you have them out, you’re not a tool. It’s just, I would feel like a tool.”
By contrast, Meghan Trainor keeps her Best New Artist Grammy where she and others can admire it.
“[I keep it] with a few other special items on a table in the entrance to my bedroom, so it’s one of the last things I see before I go to bed,” she tells Billboard.
The group Portugal. The Man won their first Grammy last year for their smash hit “Feel It Still,” and lead singer John Gourley tells Billboard that his Grammy is kept in a very unique place.
“My dad keeps it in his truck back home in Alaska, so he has it on his long drives from Willow to Denali,” he reveals. “It’s a reminder of all our long trips singing along with [legendary artists] Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney. In so many ways, my family and those long drives are responsible for writing ‘Feel It Still.‘“
You can tune into the 61st Grammy Awards February 10 to see if Kelly will take home her fourth Grammy — which we assume she’ll promptly stash upstairs out of sight.
