Ariana Grande to headline Coachella Festival

ABC/Randy HolmesAriana Grande is one of the main headliners for this year’s Coachella festival, taking place the weekends of April 12-14 and 19-21 in Indio, California.

Ariana will play both weekends of the festival, along with fellow headliners Childish Gambino and alt-rockers Tame Impala.

Also taking the stages this year will be rock bands Weezer and The 1975; R&B singers Janelle Monae, Solange, Ella Mai and H.E.R.; country star Kacey Musgraves; DJ and producer Diplo; rappers Wiz Khalifa and Pusha T; and Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith.  The lineup so far includes 165 acts in all.  You can check out the complete roster of performers at the Coachella website.

Last year’s big Coachella performer, of course, was Beyoncé, who earned rave reviews for a two-weekend set that also included a Destiny’s Child reunion and a duet with her husband, JAY-Z.  Her powerhouse performance prompted the trending hashtag #Beychella.  Her set was also the most-viewed Coachella performance ever on YouTube, and the most-viewed live music festival performance, period, on the platform.

There’s no word yet on whether this year’s Coachella will be live streamed for free, like the first weekend was last year.

Kanye West was rumored to be under consideration to headline Coachella this year, but TMZ reported just hours before the performers were revealed that negotiations had broken down over Kanye’s stage design demands.  None of that’s confirmed.

Passes go on sale this Friday, January 4 at 11 AM PT via Coachella.com.  As usual, there’ll be the usual variety of ticket options and price levels.
