NBC/Andrew LipovskyAriana Grande helped Jimmy Fallon and his former Saturday Night Live castmates Horatio Sanz, Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan recreate their classic “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” sketch for the cold open to Wednesday’s Tonight Show.
It marked the first time the SNL alums reunited for the bit since Fallon hosted the sketch comedy show four years ago, as well as the “thank u next” singer’s first late-night appearance since calling off her engagement to current SNL cast member Pete Davidson back in October.
Grande was silent during the number, moving her head back and forth to the music with the others, with her hands placed on Kattan’s shoulders.
Fallon, Sanz, Kattan and Morgan debuted the song back in 2000.
Grande, who was the musical guest, returned later to perform her new song, “Imagine.”
Former first lady Michelle Obama, appearing on the show to promote her best-selling memoir, Becoming, also joined Jimmy for a segment in which they surprised people riding on elevators who thought they were on an NBC Studios tour, entertaining them with comedic bits.
