Guy Aroch/VarietyAdam Levine will turn 40 in March, but despite being as much as two decades older than some of his fellow pop stars, he’s not sweating his age. Asked by Variety how he feels about hitting the big 4-0, he says, “Bring it!”
“I don’t know, what the f**k else do I want? I’ve got a beautiful family, a beautiful wife, two beautiful babies, and I’ve got money in the bank,” says Adam. “I’m really happy with my career and my output and the person that I’ve become and the person that I hopefully will stay.”
“It’s too daunting to imagine anything else,” he adds. “I feel like I’ve already achieved anything beyond my wildest dreams. Age is funny…40 seemed like old age when I was 26. Hell, 26 seemed old when I was 23, so it’s all relative.”
Adam also says he’s proud that, unlike many of his contemporaries, he emerged relatively unscathed from his 20s. “I did as well as I could with my young male brain. I didn’t get arrested. I didn’t go to prison,” he boasts.
Named Hitmaker of the Year by Variety, Adam also discusses his approach to songwriting with the publication.
“My goal is to make songs that don’t sound dated 10 years later. My main criteria for a song is, can I live with it forever? And if I can’t, I just don’t have the heart to do it. It’s that simple,” he explains.
While discussing Maroon 5‘s latest smash, “Girls Like You,” Adam reveals he chose to highlight talented, accomplished women in the song’s video for one reason: He’s the father of two little girls.
“I was doing it for my kids and my wife. If anyone doesn’t understand the intentions, f**k ’em,” he says.
