Courtesy BillboardFollowing the news that Ariana Grande, Cyndi Lauper and Janelle Monáe will be receiving awards at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Event, the publication has announced additional honorees.
Grammy-nominated R&B singer SZA, who was featured on Maroon 5′s hit “What Lovers Do,” will receive the Rule Breaker Award, given to a “female artist who uses her music and platform to defy traditional industry expectations and advance a powerful message for young people today.”
In addition, Hayley Kiyoko will receive the Rising Star Award, which recognizes “an up-and-coming artist whose cultural impact and exceptional talent have demonstrated a clear path to success.”
Regarding her “cultural impact,” Hayley, who’s openly gay, is a spokesperson for the LGBTQ community who has, according to Billboard, used her debut album, self-directed music videos and live shows as “platforms of empowerment.”
Country star Kacey Musgraves, who just won the CMA Album of the Year trophy for her acclaimed release Golden Hour, will also be honored. She’ll receive the Innovator award, given to an artist who “challenges musical convention, creates positive change and contributes new ideas both within and outside of her creative work.”
As previously reported, Ariana Grande is Billboard’s Woman of the Year. The Woman in Music gala will be held December 6 in New York City, and the red carpet pre-show will stream live on Twitter from 7 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET.
