Kevin Mazur/Getty ImagesMonday night, Lady Gaga hit the red carpet for the L.A. premiere of her new movie A Star Is Born, and she looked stunning in a Givenchy silver lace column dress and matching cloak, and a Bulgari diamond choker. But was her look a nod to one of the stars of a previous version of the movie?
Page Six claims that Gaga’s choice of a silver dress, cloak and choker was a tip of the hat to Barbra Streisand, the star of the 1976 version of A Star Is Born. Both Gaga and Streisand play aspiring singers who are given a boost by older male singers whose stars are fading. In the 1976 version, Streisand’s character, Esther, wins a Grammy while wearing a silver caped dress — which Streisand designed herself — and a choker.
Meanwhile, Gaga has released a teaser of “Is That Alright?,” a song on the A Star Is Born soundtrack, due out October 5, the same day the movie hits theaters. In the emotional ballad, Gaga — in character as rising star Ally — sings, “I want you/at the end of my life/I wanna see your face when I fall with grace/The moment I die/Is that alright?”
The teaser soundtracks a one-minute montage of scenes from the movie, in which we see the romance blossom between Ally and co-star/director Bradley Cooper‘s character, Jackson Maine.
