Taylor Swift explains “Reputation” is really about “finding love throughout the noise”

Mert & MarcusTaylor Swift recently treated fans in Chicago to an intimate concert, where she gave more insight into her latest album, Reputation.

According to Entertainment Tonight, during the performance, Taylor revealed that — contrary to the revenge theme of its lead single, “Look What You Made Me Do” — the album is not about holding grudges, but rather about “finding love throughout all the noise.”

“[I] think there was a bit of a bait-and-switch that happened with this album when we put out ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ and we’re like, ‘Guys, this album is gonna be one thing,’”  she explained.

“And when the album came out, it’s legitimately an album about finding love throughout all the noise.”

Taylor continued, “And so it starts with the noise and how that makes all you feel, and how it makes you feel when people are saying things about you that you feel, like, aren’t true and living your life sort of in defiance of that.”

She added that the message ultimately comes to down to finding what matters to you most, despite all the craziness surrounding you. It seems Taylor has found that, with boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

As she put it, “If you can find something real in spite of a bad reputation, then isn’t that what matters the most to you? And doesn’t it matter the most to you that you know who your real friends are now?”

During the show, Taylor played stripped down versions of her hits including “Delicate, “Gorgeous” and “Shake It Off.” The concert is now available to watch on Taylor’s DIRECTV channel, Taylor Swift NOW.
