Normani says fans can expect “lots of flavor” on her solo album: “I'm trying to perfect it”

Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesBack in April, Fifth Harmony‘s Normani signed a solo record deal, but so far, the only music we’ve heard from her outside the group is “Love Lies,” her hit duet with Khalid.  However, Normani says she’s working hard “trying to perfect” her own unique sound.

Asked what we can expect from her solo album, Normani told ABC Radio, “Lots of flavor. I’m really wanting to go against what everything sounds like right now, and I’m really going back to my inspirations, things that made me fall in love with music.”

And what are some of those things?

She explains, “I love ’90s R&B music, [and] I’m originally from New Orleans, Louisiana so I’m gonna leave you with those.”

As for when we can hear the new music, Normani says, “I’m working. I’m trying to perfect it. I don’t necessarily have a specific date yet but towards the end of the year, top of next year.”

Fifth Harmony went on an indefinite hiatus earlier this year so all the four members could pursue their solo careers. The group is the first all-female act since Destiny’s Child to have three members who have charted as solo artists on the Billboard Hot 100.  In addition to Normani, Lauren Jauregui and former member Camila Cabello have also had solo hits.
