The British tabloid The Sun reports that the singer and his boyfriend of nine months, 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, have broken up. The paper says that the two split last week and Sam has subsequently deleted several pictures of the two from his Instagram account.
A source close to Sam tells the paper, “Sam and Brandon had a real whirlwind romance. They really fell for each other. But they are both so busy with their careers and unfortunately things just haven’t worked out.”
Adds the source, “Sam is obviously devastated. This is the most significant relationship he has ever had. Thankfully, he is on tour across the U.S. at the moment, which has been a welcome distraction.”
During their relationship, Sam and Brandon were often photographed smooching on the street. According to The Sun, Sam and Brandon were seen hanging out in the U.K. together just last month, and Brandon took Sam to meet his parents earlier in the year.
However, this past weekend, Brandon was in Manhattan for New York Pride, while Sam was in Boston preparing for his show Tuesday night.
In January, Sam said of his relationship with Brandon, “I’m in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy. I’m actually asking myself if I’m going to be writing some happy love songs soon.”
