Charles Sykes/BravoJohn Mayer is taking over as host of Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live this Sunday, in honor of his good pal Andy Cohen’s 50th birthday.
According to a preview of the episode by People, the singer surprised the host on set and during the episode, the two chat about John’s dating past and Andy’s A-List friends. John — who’s dated the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson – admits that hanging out with Andy allows him to be around celebrities who would otherwise want nothing to do with him.
“You’re friends with Jennifer Lawrence, who just doesn’t want anything to do with me,” he says. “And look at me. I don’t have the greatest track record when it comes to celebrity relationships, so it’s amazing to watch your friends humor me on a friend level but also keep a fair distance from me.”
John adds, “It’s really, really fun. Because if you are somebody who cares about their image…dating John Mayer at this point is conceptually just sort of a no-no. So it’s really fun to get to hang out with your friends, your A-list star friends, who otherwise would be highly uncomfortable sitting around me. And I want to thank you for that.”
John later performed an acoustic cover version of one of Andy’s favorite songs.
