ABC/Eric McCandlessThe final five American Idol contestants will take the stage Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ABC to perform hits by Idol’s own Carrie Underwood. And the two contestants eliminated last week say a case could be made for any of the five winning the competition.
Jurnee, eliminated last week with Catie Turner, tells ABC Radio that Maddie Poppe could win because she’s “so unique” and has “amazing song choices.” As for Cade Foehner, Jurnee raves, “There’s no one like him right now in our generation doing it like he’s doing it. He’s ridiculous!”
And Michael J. Woodard? Jurnee gushes that he’s “true ’90s R&B,” adding, “We haven’t had that in forever…he can win! And he’s just so happy all the time!”
Catie, meanwhile, feels Caleb Lee Hutchinson has “one of the biggest personalities you could ever imagine and he’s so funny,” but thinks Gabby Barrett may have it on lock.
“She’s a seasoned pro. She’s been working at this, like, all her life,” Catie says. “That’s why I think she could actually take this whole thing.”
During last week’s elimination, Catie told ABC Radio she wanted to be voted out, because after blowing her lyrics, she didn’t deserve to stay. In fact, she felt so strongly about it that, had she been voted safe, she claims she would’ve “volunteered as tribute,” just like in Hunger Games.
“I would’ve pulled a Katniss Everdeen!” Catie reveals. “I [texted] the producer right before I went on stage. I said, ‘Hi guys, not to make you scared, but…If I make it, I’m giving my spot to Jurnee.'”
Jurnee says, “I wouldn’t have let her do that…but it’s just so sweet. These are the kind of bonds you make when you’re with people this long…I’m happy I have lifelong pals.”
