ABC/Image Group LA)On Thursday, Selena Gomez released a new single, “Back to You,” but fans are still waiting for the follow-up to her 2015 album Revival. Well, good news: She’s “finishing it up.” The bad news? She has no idea when she’ll release it.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Thursday, Selena said she’s working at her own pace, adding, “I’m not trying to throw a bunch of music in people’s faces until I’m ready.”
But why has it been so long in the first place? According to Selena, she was “terrified” of doing another album after Revival “because…it could be like it was a step down, or I needed to ‘beat’ that record…so I waited.”
“I wanted it to be great,” she continued. “And had I not waited a good year or two, I wouldn’t have had the best songs I’ve ever had.”
But when we’ll get to hear those songs is something she still hasn’t figured out.
“I am finishing up the album…There’s no date, there’s no idea for it, but I have a lot of music that I’ve collectively put away,” she told Lowe.
As far as her personal life, a source tells Entertainment Tonight, “Selena’s focus right now is herself, 100 percent. Right now it’s working for her.”
According to the source, Selena is also on “better terms with her mother” since she decided to put the brakes on her relationship with Justin Bieber.
“There’s no bad blood between her and Justin,” dishes the source. “They will always be incredibly important to each other, but they both know that right now Selena doesn’t have it in her to be in a serious relationship — especially one that causes stress and drama in her life.”
