Start your engines: Kelly Clarkson to sing national anthem before the Indy 500

Vincent PetersSome people wait a lifetime for a moment like this, but for Kelly Clarkson, it’s the second time around.

Kelly will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 27.  She previously did the honors back in 2011, when she performed the national anthem as a duet with Seal.

In a statement, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Kelly back…on Race Day to sing the national anthem for hundreds of thousands of fans in the stands and millions of viewers around the world.”

Boles added, “She is an incredible live performer with a wonderful and instantly recognizable voice. We look forward to her rendition of the national anthem during one of the most poignant moments of this iconic global sporting spectacle.”

You can catch Kelly singing the anthem live on ABC May 27, with the pre-race show starting at 11 a.m. ET.

Kelly has yet to announce a full tour in support of her Meaning of Life album, but she’s scheduled a number of special performances in addition to this one. She’ll sing at the upcoming Warrior Games in Colorado on June 2, at the Newbo Evolve festival in Cedar Rapids, IA on August 3, and at the Montana Fair in Billings, MO on August 11.
