Dry your eyes: Ariana scores top-10 debut with new single

Republic Records

Ariana Grande’s new single may be called “No Tears Left to Cry,” but currently, she has no reason to cry: The song has debuted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“No Tears Left to Cry” is Ariana’s ninth top-10 hit on that chart, and it comes in at #1 on the Digital Song Sales chart with 100,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music.  Billboard notes that its the first song to sell six figures in a week since Drake‘s “God’s Plan” moved 127,000 back in February.

Billboard also notes that if “Tears” is actually the official first lead single from Ari’s upcoming fourth album, she’ll be the only artist in history to have scored a top-10 Hot 100 debut with the first single from every one of her albums.

“My Way,” the first single from Yours Truly, debuted at #10 in 2013.  “Problem,” the first single from 2014’s My Everything, debuted at #3.  And the title track of Dangerous Woman debuted at #10 in 2016.

Finally, thanks to “No Tears Left to Cry,”Ariana now ties Lady Gaga and Rihanna when it comes to most top-10 debuts on the Hot 100: each woman has six.  Taylor Swift holds the record, with 14, followed by Drake with 12, Eminem with eight, and Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne, both with seven.
