As she predicted, Halsey's getting “Closer” to a movie career

ABC/Paula LoboHalsey has reportedly accepted her first ever on-screen acting role, but her cinematic aspirations aren’t new. The singer, who Deadline reports is set to star in a movie loosely based on her life, previously predicted that making a movie in some capacity would be in her future.

“I would love to do a film eventually,” she told ABC Radio. “I dunno where I’d start, though. I dunno if it would be screenwriting or acting or directing but I get antsy. So I imagine that one day I’m gonna wake up and music’s not gonna do the job. I’m gonna have to do something else too.”

Cinema has been a huge influence on Halsey’s music from the start.  She told ABC Radio that she based much of her first album, Badlands, on her love for sci-films like Blade Runner and Fifth Element, as well as Quentin Tarantino movies.

Her current album, hopeless fountain kingdom, was inspired by Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann.  She then carried that inspiration into the series of music videos for each of the singles from the album, which she co-directed.

“’Now or Never’ was the first video I ever directed and then I did a couple more for the album,” she told ABC Radio. “And kinda getting to play around in [Lurhmann’s] energy, in his style, has been a really good learning experience for me.”

As previously reported, Halsey will voice the character of Wonder Woman in the forthcoming animated filmTeen Titans GO! To The Movies, headed to theaters July 27. The film is based on the popular Cartoon Network series, Teen Titans GO!
