¡Ay, bendito! “Despacito” sets record with five billion YouTube views

ABC/ Heidi Gutman“Despacito” was pretty much the song of 2017, and it shows no sign of stopping in 2018.  The official video for Luis Fonsi smash has just become the first ever to reach five billion views on YouTube.

The video features Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee, but not Justin Bieber, whose addition to the track helped make it a 16-week #1 hit on the Billboard chart.

“Despacito,” which first hit YouTube in January of 2017, broke records last August as the most-viewed YouTube video of all time, and it reached four billion views in October.

According to TubeFilter, that means the clip is getting more than 11 million views per day, which is impressive for a video that only took 14 hours to shoot.

It’s hard to see any clip overtaking “Despacito” anytime soon, as it’s comfortably ahead of the second most-viewed video of all time on YouTube: Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth‘s “See You Again,” which has fewer than 3.5 billion views.
