The message behind Imagine Dragons' latest hit may be a cliché…but it's a good one

Imagine Dragons‘ current album Evolve has already produced two massive hits — “Believer” and “Thunder” — and now “Whatever It Takes” is looking to become hit number three.  Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds says the song’s title is pretty much self-explanatory.

“I think that title probably gives away that song more than any song on Evolve,” he tells ABC Radio. “It’s about overcoming my own self-confidence issues that I’ve had since I was young.”

“Since I was young…I was taught that you could do whatever you could dream of — you just had to work harder than everybody else,” Dan adds. “And you had to never give up.”

“It’s a cliché,” he admits. “But there’s a reason it’s a cliché.” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

Imagine Dragons are currently touring Europe, which will be followed by dates in Australia and New Zealand. They’ll kick off a North American arena tour this summer starting June 5 in Hartford, Connecticut, with opening act Grace VanderWaal of America’s Got Talent fame.
