starzfly/Bauer-Griffin/GC ImagesMeghan Trainor is now engaged to actor Daryl Sabara, but it turns out they actually met each other two years ago, before they were involved. At that time, Meghan recalls, she made quite the impression on Daryl…by getting drunk and screaming at him all night.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Meghan says, “I met him once before, like, two years before we went on a date, but I was just a little songwriter…I wasn’t ‘Meghan Trainor, pop star.’ I was a songwriter, hustling.”
“He crashed our party with his friends and I immediately recognized him,” recalls the self-admitted “super fan” of Daryl’s Spy Kids movies. “I went up to him…and was like, ‘Are you Spy Kids?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah!’ He was really nice about it.”
“And then the whole night, I was under the influence and was, like, screaming across the hall, Spy Kids!” she laughs. “And he remembered my name, and was like, ‘Meghan!’ And I was like, ‘Ahh!’ And I remember calling my whole family and was like, ’Dude, I met Spy Kids last night.’ And they freaked out!”
Meghan notes, “I never fangirled over celebrities and made a fool of myself, but to him I was like, ‘I love you, man! You’re so good!’ And then, two years later…we’re in love!”
Now that she’s engaged to Daryl, Meghan says she’s eager to meet Daryl’s Spy Kids co-star, Alexa PenaVega, and her husband, Carlos. Alexa is apparently psyched to meet Meghan as well.
“I’m like, ‘When am I going to meet your sister?’ ‘cause practically that’s like his only sister he’s ever had,” The Four judge tells ET.
