Ariana Grande up for “Hero of the Year” at NME Awards; Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift also get nods

Getty Images/Dave Hogan for One Love ManchesterAriana Grande has been nominated for Hero of the Year at the 2018 NME Awards, given out each year by the British music publication NME.  The nomination comes in recognition of her role in organizing the One Love Manchester benefit show, following the bombing at her concert in Manchester last May that killed 23 people.

Ariana’s competition in the category includes actress Rose McGowan, for speaking out against sexual harassment, as well as some British politicians and celebrities. The One Love benefit, meanwhile, is nominated for Music Moment of the Year; it’s up against, among other things, Lady Gaga‘s Super Bowl halftime show.

Ed Sheeran received several NME Awards nominations as well: he’s up for Best British Solo Artist and Best Festival Headliner.  His pal Taylor Swift is up for Best International Solo Artist and Best Video, for “Look What You Made Me Do.”

Lorde and Charli XCX are the leading nominees, with four nods each; Dua Lipa has received three.

The winners will be announced at a live ceremony on February 14 at London’s O2 Academy Brixton; the event will be streamed on Facebook Live.  You can vote now at Awards.NME.com.
