ABC/Image Group LAThis Sunday night, you can catch Zedd and Alessia Cara performing together on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. While it’s not every day he gets to appear on such an iconic TV show, the producer and deejay says that in general, New Year’s gigs are just another day at the office.
“I always perform on New Year’s. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t have to perform,” he tells ABC Radio.
“Sometimes, of course, you wish you could celebrate with your friends,” he adds. “But then the moment you[‘re] up there onstage and you see everybody happy, and you have the fireworks and confetti and balloons…seeing people smile and sing along, and seeing what a song means to them, means a lot to me.”
On New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Zedd and Alessia will perform their Grammy-nominated hit “Stay,” but it won’t be that slow, stripped-down version they did last month on the American Music Awards:
“It is gonna be a performance more in the shape of the original song,” he says. “I would say we’re trying to put the focus more on the energy of the song.”
In 2017, “Stay” became the third top 10 hit for both Zedd and Alessia. Alessia then went on to score a fourth top 10: “1-800-273-8255,” her collabo with Logic and Khalid.
