ABC/Image Group LAPortugal. the Man will close out their massive 2017 with a performance from Los Angeles on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, and the “Feel It Still” rockers think it’s “insane” they’re playing the iconic special.
“We grew up watching [New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,] and…I don’t remember a New Year’s without it,” says bassist Zach Carothers. “So this is pretty heavy for us, actually.”
“This was the reason I got to stay up past midnight when I was a kid,” adds guitarist Eric Howk of the show. “To all the kids out there watching, wait ’til 12:01, party hard.”
As for the enduring appeal of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Carothers, who grew up in Alaska, feels that the special “brings everybody together.”
“No matter where you are in the country or in the world, you’re all watching people, and you get to see everywhere around the world what they’re doing at that time,” he says. “And that’s something special, you don’t get a lot of things like that, everybody all coming together.”
The celebration begins December 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
