Congratulations To Teacher of the Month Carrie Boyce!

Carrie Boyce, a first-grade teacher at Bellevue Elementary School in Bellevue Union School District, has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for April 2021.

The monthly award honors one of Sonoma County’s most outstanding teachers from October through May. It is sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), HOT 101.7, K-HITS 107.9, and Community First Credit Union (CFCU).

“So many teachers have stepped up in incredible ways to support students and families during these unprecedented times of distance learning,” said Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. “The Teacher of the Month program this year seeks to honor, support, and thank those teachers who have gone above and beyond to support students during the shelter-in-place.”

Mrs. Boyce received a heartfelt nomination from an appreciative parent. She was described as an engaging, compassionate, creative, and dedicated teacher who has gone above and beyond during virtual and hybrid learning.

“Mrs. Boyce always finds a way to create fun activities for the kids such as pajama days, giving the children opportunities to share about their days. Her communication with us, the parents, is amazing. Working with a diverse community she always strives to reach those parents and children whose primary language is not English. She translates as best as she can to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents. Now returning to in person class AND simultaneously teaching the at home learners through zoom at the same time she has continued to make class fun for the kids. She always goes above and beyond sending us pictures of the children having fun throughout the day and of their activities. Mrs. Boyce really is appreciated!” read the nomination.

Mrs. Boyce was surprised with the honor by representatives from SCOE, HOT 101.7 and KHITS 107.9 on Monday, May 10 during her hybrid class instruction. She and her students were absolutely elated by the unexpected celebratory interruption. Mrs. Boyce accepted the recognition with shock and joy. She let her students know her award would go to good use in the classroom. Mrs. Boyce will be given a special plaque and a $500 gift card for teacher resources and supplies as part of the recognition.
