Miley Cyrus puts her spin on Cranberries, The Cure at Save Our Stages Fest

NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty ImagesMiley Cyrus let loose her inner rock goddess at the virtual Save Our Stages Fest over the weekend, a concert aimed at saving entertainment venues nationwide that have been crippled by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Rocking out at an empty Whisky a Go Go, a prestigious West Hollywood music club, Cyrus put her own signature twist on hits from The Cure and Cranberries during in her 13 minutes set, tackling “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Zombie,” respectively.

Cyrus kicked off her 12 minute Saturday set, backed by her six-piece band, with a riveting performance of “Boys Don’t Cry” as she slowly took off her black hat and unbuttoned trench coat before diving into “Zombie,” taking care to express that the lyrics, which were written 1993 regarding The Troubles in Ireland, reflect the current political and racial strife dividing the U.S.

Cyrus wrapped her set with her latest single “Midnight Sky,” but was sure to give it a heavy rock makeover.

After bringing down the house for her segment of SOS Fest, the 27-year-old offered her sincere thoughts about venues like the one she chose to perform at.

“We’re here at the Whisky a Go Go, where so many of our favorite artists have begun their journey to be icons,” she proceeded. “Without venues like the Whisky, we might have never heard of artists like Jimi HendrixThe DoorsGuns N’ Roses and thousands of other bands.”

“Let’s do whatever we can to keep this historic landmark alive,” she encouraged.

In all, 35 artists performed for SOS Fest at 25 independent locations across the country, such as Foo FightersReba McEntireDave Matthews, the Lumineers, Kelsea Ballerini, Monica and many others.

As of late Sunday, SOS Fest raised $1.2 million out of its $5 million goal.
