Harry Styles' 'Fine Line' scores huge sales, number one debut

Coumbia Records/Erskine RecordsThere’s a Fine Line between Harry Styles and the top of the Billboard charts.

Harry’s second solo album has become his second number one release, debuting on top of the album chart with huge sales of 478,000 units.  According to Billboard, that’s the biggest sales week for a male pop artist in over four years: The last one to sell more was Justin Bieber‘s Purpose back in 2015.

Fine Line also scored the third biggest sales week overall for any album in 2019: Only Taylor Swift‘s Lover and Post Malone‘s Hollywood’s Bleeding had bigger debuts.

Fine Line also scores the biggest sales week by a solo male British artist since Nielsen Music started electronically tracking sales in 1991. In addition, Harry’s the first British male artist to score number one debuts with his first two albums.  His former One Direction bandmate Zayn did it with his first album, but not his second.

As Billboard notes, sales of Harry’s album were helped by the fact that each ticket sold for his upcoming tour came with a copy of the album. His tour kicks off April 15 in Birmingham, England.

The best-selling album of 2019 is currently Taylor’s Lover.
